Lewis Law School Success Coaching is a one-on-one practice run by Curtis Lewis. Every session is a live conversation — by phone or video — about your actual assignments, your actual outlines and the exam you have coming up. There is no curriculum you get shipped, no pre-recorded course to work through alone, and no handoff to an assistant. You bring the work in front of you, and it gets picked apart together.
Law School Is a Skill, Not a Mystery
Most students who struggle in law school are not lazy and are not short on intelligence. They work hard at the wrong things — rereading casebooks, highlighting until the page turns yellow, memorizing rules they can recite but cannot apply. Grades in law school come from methodnot from raw knowledge. The student who can take a rule, split it into elements, and argue both sides of a messy fact pattern under time pressure will outscore the student who knows twice as much doctrine. That is the whole premise of this practice, and once you see it, the work gets narrower and a lot more useful.
You Work Directly With Curtis Lewis
When you book, Curtis is the person on the call. That matters more than it sounds. Coaching only works when someone remembers what you wrote three weeks ago, notices that your analysis paragraphs are still thin in the same spot, and can say so plainly. A rotating roster of tutors cannot do that. One coach who reads your writing over a semester can.
- Sessions are conversations, not lectures — you talk through your own reasoning out loud
- Your writing gets read closely and marked up, not skimmed for typos
- Feedback is direct. If an answer is missing the analysis, you will be told exactly where
- Progress is tracked across sessions, so the same weak spot does not quietly survive the semester
- Available seven days a week, which matters during finals when weekday-only help is useless
Where Coaching Focuses
The work stays on the skills that move grades. Sessions are built around whatever is most urgent for you, but these are the areas students come back to again and again.
- IRAC structure — build answers that separate issue, rule, analysis and conclusion so a grader can follow your points and award them.
- Case briefing — cut a twelve-page opinion down to the holding and reasoning you can actually use in class and on an exam.
- Exam writing — turn a fact pattern into a spotted issue list and a written answer that earns points instead of restating facts.
- Issue spotting — read a hypothetical the way the professor wrote it and catch the buried issues most students skip past.
- Outlining — collapse a semester of notes into a working tool you can apply under time pressure, not a 90-page transcript.
- Legal analysis — apply rules to facts and argue both sides, which is where the bulk of exam credit lives.
- Cold call preparation — walk into class ready for the questions the professor is likely to ask about the assigned case.
- Time management on exams — allocate minutes per question and stop losing points to answers you never finished.
- 1L foundations — get the reading, briefing and note-taking habits right in the first semester instead of repairing them in the second.
How the Coaching Works
You reach out, describe where you are stuck, and Curtis sets a time. Sessions run by phone or video, and hours are Monday through Sunday, 9:00am to 7:00pmso evenings and weekends are open when your schedule is not. Before a session you send whatever you want reviewed — a brief, a practice answer, a draft outline. The call is spent on that work specifically. You leave with something concrete to do before the next one.
Bring the assignment you are actually stuck on. That is the lesson.
Who Comes to Coaching
1Ls who got a first semester of grades they did not expect. 2Ls and 3Ls tightening up before the courses that count. Students returning after a rough year who want a different approach than the one that got them there. Anyone who wants a second set of eyes on their writing from someone who will be honest about it.
Start With a Conversation
